In her spare time, Ashley loves to give back to her community as she believes it is critical to help in positively changing the world. She places great focus on empowering others as well as mentoring and educating youth. Below is a list of different efforts and organizations that she is involved in.
MENTORSHIP… Ashley is driven to help high-achieving, underserved high school and college students be successful in fulfilling their dreams. She is active in Management Leadership for Tomorrow in order to help students prepare for college as well as their careers. She often gives advice to youth at networking and career advising workshops.
THE NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS ASSOCIATION… Ashley is a volunteer and spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association, which supports millions of people who are battling eating disorders as well as their family and friends. In her spare time, she writes about her personal battle with eating disorders for a website affiliated with NEDA called Proud2BMe. You can check out her blogs for the website by clicking here. Having overcome anorexia and bulimia, she hopes her involvement in NEDA and her support of those battling eating disorders will help many people– especially minorities– who are suffering from eating disorders.
PROMOTING GLOBAL EDUCATION…Ashley loves traveling and educating youth around the globe. She also travels to be apart of community service projects. For example, in 2011, she traveled to Guatemala (pictured left) with her classmates from the University of Southern California to renovate a school and to teach children English. She created a broadcast story on her experience.
ADVOCACY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS… In 2010, Ashley investigated human trafficking within Los Angeles. It truly awakened her to a terrible industry that needs to receive more awareness in order to be diminished. She supports and advocates for the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST) and other organizations that are dedicated to helping those who have suffered from being forced into human trafficking.
